This one could have and should have happened, Duran sent Pryor a $750,000 Offer on his way up to Welterweight, it had a time limit on it as he wanted to fight for and obviously win the JWW title then go on up to WW, Pryor's Camp never gave them an answer, I have lived in Cincinnati my entire life and followed Pryor's Career from the beginning, this was a good news article in the local paper at the time, everyone thought for sure that they would accept it and that would have Vaulted Aaron into Super Elite status, instead he let the biggest offer he would receive px him by, my belief is, they did not really think he could beat Duran, I see that fight being an awesome one for possibly a few rounds, with Duran eventually Knocking him out.
Why? It's simple, Pryor was put down at least 5 times in his Pro Career, all by bums, as he never fought any Full-fledged, Legit JWW with Power, Cervantes was past his prime and ready to retire when Pryor beat him for the Title, and he even put him down, and Arguello was over his best weight, so he never fought anyone else with Power, because they knew he could not take a big punch, Duran could take on for sure, he had supreme power in both hands, speed, quickness and a Superb Defensive fighter and smart, Pryor had no balance left himself wide open to Duran's counters, and although Pryor hit hard with both hands, he did not possess 1 Punch KO Power, he had to hit most of his decent opponents many times to wear them down then Ko them.
If Duran can go toe to toe with Iran Barkley a hard Hitting JMW and Marvin Hagler at MW and others, he would definitely destroy Pryor, YES it would be awesome to start, but sooner than Later, Duran connects and Puts him out cold.
They agreed to fight Arguello instead for many Reasons, Arguello was tall and lean, perfect for Pryor's type of attack, plus he was much slower than Duran and left most of his Power at his best weight at JLW, and he still hit hard at LW but lost more at JWW, and he was 31, perfect for a Doped up Pryor, I still believe without Panama Lewis using Drugs in Pryor's corner drink to pump up and keep him up, that awesome straight Right Alexis threw that bent Pryor's head straight back and appeared he touched his back with the back of his head, should have knocked him out, at the very least knocked him down and hurt him, but the drugs kept him up.
Duran by KO in 7 or 8, and I would not be surprised if Duran caught him in any round from 1 on up when he finally connects, Pryor is gone.
